Fake Gold, Silver inside gold ring

KATHMANDU: With the arrest of 7 members of a racket today, the Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD) has shown new method of fraudsters engaged in tricking people into buying fake gold to cough up hefty cash from them.

The six arrestees are: Tham Bahadur Bhandari and his son Nabin Bhandari of Baglung, Budu Tamang, Tek Bahadur Tamang , Dhak Bahadur Tamang, Tarchel Tamang and Pilcha Tamang of Dhading.
According to SSP Bijay Lal Kayastha of MPCD in-charge said, the gang would mortgage gold coated silver ornament to borrow money with promise of providing 24 % interest a month.

The silver ornaments were coated with a pure layer of gold in such way that it would be hard even for an expert to say they are gold coated ones at a glance.

The mastermind of the racket, Tham Bahadur able to lured Sudan Gahatraj, a Baneshwor based jeweller, providing him Rs. 4.85 million for gold coated silver ornaments over the late 4 months. They had also given invoice of the gold purchased from certified jewellers in the Valley to take Gahatraj into confidence.
